Ayurveda, The Holistic Science with Love and Compassion

Ayurveda, the holistic science of life, is considered to be a part of the mighty Vedas. As life science of practical use, it occupied the minds of the Rishis, the followers of Devayaan Path with interest, as well as the curiosity and concern. They saw therein a helping hand to overcome many obstacles arising in their efforts in proceeding the society on the Path of Purushaartha.

Origin of Ayurveda

The system of medicine preserved in the AtharvaVeda, included chants and amulets along with herbs, precious stones and touching the patients. The idea was to cure the patient, physically, mentally and spiritually. It is said that the Vedas, especially the AtharvaVeda is the origin of the divine science of life, Ayurveda.
It is said to have originated from Lord Dhanvantari or Lord Brahma (Creator of the Universe, according to Indian mythology) and descended to the earth through various generations of deities and Rishis. The Rishis (sages-physicians-surgeons- scientists) of the ancient times were the deeply devoted holy people, who saw health as an integral part of spiritual life. Various Symposiums were conducted by them time to time and the knowledge was updated.
It is said that they received their knowledge of Ayurveda through direct cognition during meditation. In other words, the knowledge of the use of various methods of healing, prevention, medication, meditation, longevity and surgery etc came through Divine revelation. These revelations were transcribed from the oral tradition into book form, interspersed with the other aspects of life and spirituality. Ayurvedic text books, focused on the treatment of trees and animals were also available in ancient times.
Ayurveda is an ancient science of life, a traditional and the oldest and most holistic medical system available on the planet today. Before the advent of writing, the ancient wisdom of this healing system was a part of the spiritual tradition of the Vedic Religion. This has been handed down to us by means of ancient venerable scripts as palm leaf books, leather leaves etc.

परमपूज्य सद्गुरु श्रीअनिरुद्ध (डॉ. अनिरुद्ध धैर्यधर जोशी, एम्. डी. मेडिसीन) म्हणजेच बापू पवित्र समन्वयाच्या मार्गाबद्दल प्रवचानांमधून सांगतात. मला त्यातून बोध झाला, तो पुढीलप्रमाणे- विज्ञान आणि अध्यात्म हे परस्परविरोधी नसून उलट परस्परपूरकच आहेत. विज्ञान आणि भक्ती यांची उचित सांगड घालून परमेश्वरी मार्गाने स्वतःसह सर्वांचाच विकास मानव साधू शकतो.
सेवेलाही भक्तीचे अधिष्ठान असणे गरजेचे आहे, जेणेकरून त्या सेवेचा अहंकार मानवाला येत नाही. उलट भगवंताने मला सेवा करण्याची संधी देऊन माझ्या प्रारब्धाचा भार हलका करण्याचा मार्ग दाखविला, ह्या भावनेने मानव भगवंताचा ऋणी राहतो आणि अधिकाधिक सेवादेखील करत राहतो.
 सद्गुरु श्रीअनिरुद्धांच्या (बापुंच्या) मार्गदर्शनाने ‘अनिरुद्धाज् अ‍ॅकॅडमी ऑफ डिझॅस्टर मॅनेजमेंट’ ह्या संस्थेची स्थापना करण्यात आली. संस्थेच्या नावावरूनच आपल्या लक्षात येईल की ही भक्तीचे अधिष्ठान असणारी संस्था आहे, जिच्याद्वारे श्रद्धावान स्वयंसेवक (DMV) भक्तिमय सेवा (Devotional Service) करतात. आपद्ग्रस्तांना सहाय्य करणे हे परमेश्वरी कार्यच आहे, ह्या श्रद्धेने श्रद्धावान स्वयंसेवक आपत्ती व्यवस्थापनाच्या कार्यात, बचाव कार्यात भाग घेतात आणि भक्तीचा पाया असल्यामुळे आपोआपच त्यात निरपेक्ष भाव असतो.

मानवाची कुवत सीमित आहे, पण भगवंताचे सामर्थ्य असीम आहे आणि जे परमेश्वरी मूल्याधारित कार्य करतात, त्यांना भगवंत त्या कार्यात भरभरून सहाय्य करीतच असतो, ह्या जाणिवेतून आपत्ती निवारण कार्याचे प्रशिक्षण घेण्यापासून ते आपत्ती व्यवस्थापन (Disaster Management) कार्य करण्यापर्यंत प्रत्येक पावलाला श्रद्धावान स्वयंसेवक मनात भगवंताचे स्मरण करत असतात. आपत्ती व्यवस्थापन कार्याच्या सेवेत निरपेक्ष प्रेमाने भाग घेणार्‍या प्रत्येक हाताला विधायक कार्यशक्तीचा पुरवठा करणारे हृदय भक्तीचेच आहे आणि सद्गुरु श्रीअनिरुद्धांच्या प्रेमाने या कार्यात चैतन्य आहे.

मातृवात्सल्यविन्दानम्

 आज श्रीपरशुराम जयंती!

 अग्रतः चतुरो वेदाः पृष्ठतः सशरं धनुः ।
इदं ब्राह्मं इदं क्षात्रं शापादपि शरादपि ।।

श्रीगुरुभक्ती कशी करावी याचा आदर्श म्हणजे श्रीपरशुराम! प्राचीन काळापासून गुरुशिष्यपरंपरा हे भारताचे एक बलस्थान राहिले आहे. अशा आदर्श गुरुशिष्यांच्या जोड्यांमध्ये ज्या गुरुशिष्यजोडीचे नाव अग्रक्रमाने घेतले जाते, ती जोडी म्हणजे ‘श्रीगुरु दत्तात्रेय आणि त्यांचा शिष्य परशुराम’ ही जोडी. आदिमाता आदिशक्तिच्या स्वरूपाचा बोध श्रीगुरु दत्तात्रेयांनी परशुरामांना केला. ह्या गुरुशिष्य जोडीच्या संवादातून आदिमाता चण्डिकेच्या त्रिविध रूपांच्या चरित्राचे अत्यंत सुस्पष्ट विवेचन करणारा ‘मातृवात्सल्यविन्दानम्’ अर्थात् ‘मातरैश्‍वर्यवेद’ हा सद्गुरु श्रीअनिरुद्धविरचित ग्रन्थ श्रद्धावानांसाठी अत्यंत मार्गदर्शक आहे.

गायत्री, महिषासुरमर्दिनी आणि अनसूया ह्या तिघीही वेगवेगळ्या नसून एकच आहेत. मानवाच्या क्रमबद्ध विकासासाठी एकच असणारी आदिमाता तीन स्तरांवर त्रिविध रूपाने कार्यरत असते. ह्या तिच्या तीनही स्वरूपांना आदिमाता, त्रिधा, दुर्गा, शुद्धविद्या व चण्डिका ह्या नामांनी श्रेष्ठ श्रद्धावानांकडून प्रार्थिले जाते.

अशा या आद्यमातृतत्त्वाच्या म्हणजेच आदिमाता चण्डिकेच्या गायत्री, महिषासुरमर्दिनी आणि अनसूया ह्या त्रिविध स्वरूपांचे एकत्व स्पष्ट करून ह्या तिघींच्याही चरित्राचे अत्यंत सुबोध, नेमके आणि नि:संदिग्ध वर्णन ह्या ग्रन्थात केले गेले आहे.

हा ग्रन्थ केवळ आदिमाताविषयकच नव्हे; तर सर्वच पारमार्थिक संकल्पना अत्यंत सोप्या शब्दांत स्पष्ट करतो. गायत्रीमातेचे पंचमुख स्वरूप व कार्य, विश्‍वाची उत्पत्ती कशी झाली, ब्रह्माण्डांचे कार्य कसे चालते, विश्‍वात पहिला प्रज्ञापराध कोणी व का केला, विश्‍वातील पहिले असुरद्वय कोण, सुरांवर असुर का कुरघोडी करतात, महिषासुर आणि त्याचे चौदा सेनापति यांचे मानवी जीवनातील रूप, महिषासुरमर्दिनीचे नऊ अवतार आणि लीला इथपासून ते अनसूयामातेचे जीवनाख्यान, कलिपुरुषाची आकृती, अनसूयेचे दुर्गारूपात प्रकटन, दत्तात्रेय जन्मकथा, परशुरामाचे जीवनकार्य अशा अनेक मुद्यांचे समर्पक सखोल विवेचन ह्या ग्रन्थात केले आहे.

श्रीअनिरुद्धांना त्यांच्या ह्या आदिमातेच्या वात्सल्यलीलांचे संकीर्तन तर करायचे आहेच, पण त्याचबरोबर श्रद्धावानांचा आदिमातेच्या शुभंकरा व अशुभनाशिनी ह्या दोन यन्त्रणांशी परिचय करून देऊन तिचा विसर हेच अशुभाला आमन्त्रण आणि तिचे स्मरण हेच अशुभाचे उच्चाटन हे सत्यही सांगायचे आहे.
ह्या ग्रन्थाबाबत ते म्हणतात-
‘‘ह्या आख्यानात माझं काहीच नाही परंतु माझं सर्वस्व ह्या आख्यानात गुंतलेलं आहे.
आईचा शब्द ही आज्ञा नसते, तो वज्रलेप असतो. माझ्यासाठी तिच्या शब्दाबाहेर मुळी विश्‍वच नाही.
माझ्या प्रत्येक क्षितिजावर सदैव उदयाला येत असतो, तो दत्तगुरु व त्या प्रत्येक क्षितिजावर सदैव उषा विलसत असते, ती माझ्या प्राणप्रिय आदिमातेची अर्थात परमेश्वरी चण्डिकेची.
कुठल्याही क्षितिजावर फक्त हेच आणि म्हणूनच अस्त व संध्यास्वरूप माझ्यासाठी अस्तित्वातच नाही.
हा ग्रंथही आहे, हे गुणसंकीर्तनही आहे, ही ज्ञानगंगा आहे, ही भक्तिभागीरथीही आहे व आदिमातेचे आख्यान तर आहेच आहे. परंतु ह्या सर्वांच्या पलीकडे हे माझ्या आदिमातेचे शुभंकरा व अशुभनाशिनी स्वरूप आहे, वात्सल्य आहे व वरदानही आहे.
माझ्या लाडक्या श्रद्धावान मित्रांनो, अत्यंत कळकळीने सांगतो आहे की ह्या ग्रंथाचे श्रद्धापूर्वक पठण करणार्‍या श्रद्धावानाच्या समीप ही माझी माय प्रत्यक्ष बसून हा ग्रंथ श्रवण करीत असेल व त्यामुळे तिची छत्रछाया सदैव ग्रंथवाचकावर जेव्हाजेव्हा जरूर असेल, तेव्हा तेव्हा त्याच्याकडे अतिशय प्रखर दुष्प्रारब्ध असले तरीसुद्धा आपोआप धरली जाईल, हा माझा विश्‍वास आहे.’’

सद्गुरु श्रीअनिरुद्धांनी या ग्रन्थाद्वारे श्रद्धावानांना त्यांच्या आयुष्यात खूप मोठा आधार दिला आहे, ज्यायोगे श्रद्धावान चण्डिकेची भक्ती करून आपल्या प्रारब्धाशी लढण्यास सुसज्ज होऊ शकतील.
